Ritz at Walgreens

I have heard reports that when trying to buy the Nabisco Ritz Crackers at Walgreens they are making you buy 4 to use one $2/2 coupon. Since they are buy one get one free, you are technically only buying 1 and then they give you one.... Has anyone had this same experience?

Yes. Some stores are more picky with this than others...but how it was explained to me by the manager at my store is that the coupon is for $2/2, and we are only buying 1/$1.99. When Walgreens rings up the 2nd item, it rings up as $0.00. The coupon would not scan until I had at least 3 boxes rung up. Walgreens won't manually enter the coupons. If they don't beep they won't use them.

I know it doesn't seem to make sense, when I can get overage on other items.

So since they are not completly free, people many not want them. It was worth .49 per box for me. I still had $2 overage on my total order.

It wouldn't surprise me at all because I have found that regardless of the good deals I can find at Walgreens, they always have some sort of "policy" that they enforce at check out which prevents me from using all my coupons and/or getting my coupons and money back.

I have been so frustrated with local Walgreens lately...the cashiers and managers seem very hard to work with when it comes to coupons...I tried the Excedrin ($2.00 off coupons) - last week when Excedrin was on sale for $1.99. Only 1 out of 3 Walgreens would honor the deal. I wasn't going to sit there and argue with them, it makes you feel like you are doing something wrong...but it is amazing how easy it is when you find a helpful cashier to work with you.

I had to buy 3 crackers in order for the register to take the coupon.

This is strange because a few weeks ago they had some cleaning supplies on sale, B1G1, I was able to use 1 coupon per item, even the free items.

Today I tried to buy the Sambucal cold/cough medicine which is normally priced for $12.99. There's the $10 off Easy Saver coupon and the $4 IP manufacturer's coupon. My cashier was super nice, but still had to call over a manager. He said I had to pick one coupon or the other. So I wasn't going to buy it at all there - but get it at another store where they either give overage or just price modify it. Then my cashier had to call a manager for another question, and this time a woman came - and she asked her about the Sambucol again, winking at me. The manager said she could do a price override and it was fine. It does depend on the store and manager! This was at Locust Grove/Fairview.

With the Ritz coupons, the Eagle/Chinden store took 2 coupons for 4 boxes of ritz just fine - he only price modified the coupon to $1.99 each instead of $2.00.

Ten Mile and Cherry would not do it on 2. So I went to Locust Grove and Fairview and of coarse they were out. They were small box so I don't know if it is worth it. It is always worth a try.

I purchased 4 Ritz boxes today and used 2-$2/2 coupons...my second coupon did not go through, so the cashier suggested we do two transactions. The coupon still wouldn't go through, but she was nice enough to force it through. Lucky this time I think.

BTW, I live in Bellevue, just outside of Seattle, and your blog has been a huge help to me (thanks again 'sis)...most everything still applies. Thanks so much krazy coupon ladies!

Yes, another seriously disappointing Walgreen's experience for me tonight (Overland/Meridian Walgreen's). No dice on the Ritz deal--the manager wouldn't budge on price adjusting the ritz to 2.00 so the coupon would work (even though the people at Locust Grove/Meridian will. . .), then I tried the Aleve deal and they forgot to give me the easy saver coupon, plus they were out of all the other things I came for. Grrr! So tell me, do I have to show up there at the crack of dawn in order to find things in stock, and then cross my fingers and hope for a checker/manager who know what they're doing?! I feel like I wasted so much time planning what I was going to do and shopping the store, with nothing to show for it! Two strikes Walgreen's! I sure hope next weeks' diaper sale can redeem you!

If you have had a great experience with a Walgreen's checker, would you post their name and which store they work in? I would plan my shopping trips according to their schedules if it meant I could actually get the deals I came for!

This is why I gave up on Walgreens- too unpredictable, either not stocked or you get cashiers that don't let you do it! So frustrating.
