Cherrystone Orchards-- FRESH CHERRIES!!

It's Cherry Season!!!
And no, that doesn't mean running to Albertson's or Winco to buy a package of their cherries. It means making the drive to Emmett for some sweet, sweet goodness! (Settle down! Emmett is only 20-30 minutes from Star, Eagle and Meridian)

Cherrystone Orchard

1411 South Slope Road Emmett,ID
365-2344
U-Pick cherries starting TODAY, Thursday, June 18
hours: Monday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• U-Pick = $1.10 per pound Bring your own containers to take your cherries home.
• We-Pick = $3.50 for 2 pound bag OR $38.00 for 28 pound box, unsorted

Come to Emmett on Hwy 16 to Mill Road. Left on Mill Road to South Slope. Right on South Slope 1/3 mile to Cherrystone Orchard. Follow the Cherrystone Orchard signs.

Fresh cherries are my personal FAVORITE! But cherries can also be:
  • frozen
  • canned: A bushel of cherries = 56 pounds and you will need approximately 2 to 3 pounds per quart jar.
  • juiced
  • dehydrated and then dipped in chocolate and given as gifts. (when people know you are giving chocolate covered dehydrated cherries as gifts, your list of friends will quickly increase): Wash cherries, place in sandwich or quart size ziplock freezer bags and freeze. When ready to eat as a healthy snack, remove from freezer BUT, be sure to eat while they are still icy so they will not get soft. YUM!
Did you know..Ada County Extension Office gives classes on preserving foods, check it out at: extension.ag.uidaho.edu/ada or 377-2107
In an article in ‘Health Magazine’, May 2004, it is reported that plump, juicy Bing cherries, may help people who suffer from the pain of gout or other forms of arthritic inflammation.

CHERRIES, OH, SO GOOD FOR YOU AND DELICIOUS!

The cherries this year are AMAZING and Cherrystone's are the best (personal experience). The frost didn't get them and so they are heavy and sweet. Picking cherries is a great family event also and this weekend if you make the drive be sure to stop in the town of Emmett for the 75th Cherry Festival (parade/pie eating/cherry spitting... http://www.emmettidaho.com/emmett-cherry-festival Warning though - don't wear a white shirt...cherry juice gets everywhere.
